What Happens Once I Submit My Poll?

If you’ve used PickFu before, you’ve witnessed the magic of valuable insights pouring in. Are invisible internet hamsters running around? Have elves toiled away to help your research? Today, we’re pulling back the curtain to explain what happens once you hit Submit.

The Respondents

When you submit your question, you can open it up to the general population, or you can assign demographic traits to the respondents you want to target:

demographics

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Ethnicity
  • Education Level
  • Relationship Status
  • Number of Kids
  • Smoker/Non-Smoker
  • Diet
  • Home Ownership
  • Community Type (rural, suburban, etc)
  • Political Affiliation
  • Mobile Device
  • Literary Preference (fiction or non-fiction readers)
  • Number of books read per month
  • Once you’ve told us who you want to answer your questions, we tap into our online network of U.S.-based respondents. Each respondent is paid a small stipend for participating, and has signed a non-disclosure agreement. All respondents are bound by quality controls to give you helpful, honest insights into the question at hand.

    What Respondents See

Respondents only see your question, not others’ answers or any identifying information. If you’ve uploaded images, they can click on them to see the full-size version of the image in a new window. The only way a respondent can see the results is if you’ve chosen to display your poll in our public gallery, and even then, the poll will be complete and he or she will not be able to change a given answer.

In order to keep results reliable, we do vary the order of your A and B options to the respondents. However, we keep the labeling consistent, so sometimes the B choice will be presented before A, but it will still be called Option B.

    While Polling Is Active

You choose the number of responses you want, from 50 to hundreds. The amount of time it takes to fulfill your requirements can take anywhere from just a few minutes to several hours. During this time, you can visit your poll to see responses periodically roll in, but the results are not real-time. You can also walk away from your poll, and we’ll send you an email once the surveying is complete.

Either way, if you see a response that’s particularly helpful, you can star it. Conversely, if you find an answer that’s not up to snuff, you can flag it, and we at PickFu can take action such as banning the respondent from future polling.

    Wasn’t That Easy?

Once your poll is complete, you can share it on social media, or download the results (for subscribers, or with extra credits).

You will also see whether your poll results are statistically significant. Statistical significance measures how likely these results are due to meaningful audience preferences instead of random voting variations. At its most basic, statistical significance answers the question, what’s the likelihood that if I ran this poll again, I would see similar results?

If your results are not statistically significant, you also have the option to get more respondents to your poll.

And with that, you’re all done! Now, spread the good word with all your friends and earn some handy PickFu credits along the way.
